What is a Milestone Session you ask?

You have probably already heard about these, but I am, just as a person, out of the loop. I stay current on some things, but for the most part I am behind on what other people are doing and into. I tell you this because recently I was taking portraits of my kids (or at least trying to) and thought “It would be really cool to offer a mini session for kids around their birthdays. I bet parents would like that. What an awesome idea I just had!” I immediately did a quick Pinterest search for ideas and guess what?! This idea definitely already exists and people have been doing it for a while now.

Its called a “Milestones Session”. Just a quick session to get updated pictures of your kids without the whole family production. Its especially popular for babies around the 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, and 1 year marks because they change so much in such a short amount of time. I love this concept.

Around the same time as me stumbling upon my (someone else’s) great idea, I received an email from a mom about this exact thing. Her kids birthdays were coming up and she wanted some portraits to capture this new age. It happens to be that her kids have birthdays in the same week, so it made sense to do each of their sessions at the same time. It was a cold and rainy January day, which is the perfect excuse to stay inside. We played in the playroom, did ninja moves and ballerina twirls, jumped on the bed, and said “boogers” a lot. We seriously had so much fun (I arguably had more fun than they did) and I am looking forward to more Milestones!
